The lion (Panra leo) is one of five big cats in  genus Panra and a member of family Felidae. With some males exceeding 250 kg (550 lb) in weight, it is second-largest living cat after  tiger. Wild lions currently exist in sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia (where an endangered remnant population resides in 'Gir Forest National Park', Gujarat, India), while or types of lions have disappeared from North Africa and Southwest Asia in historic times. 

Ecological diversity is of three types:
(i) Alpha diversity
(ii) Beta diversity
(iii) Gamma biodiversity.

An Act of Parliament of India for preservation of biological diversity in India was passed in 2002 known as Biodiversity Act of India. This act provides methods for sharing of benefits in an equitable manner arising out of use of traditional biological resources and its knowledge. The function of this act includes: Regulation of acts prohibited under Act, Advise Government on conservation of biodiversity, etc. Any offense under this Act is non-bailable and cognizable.
