The cause and defect diagram is an diagram which shows defects in a product, and corresponding cause for it. This is counted in Measure step of DMAIC.

DMAIC is a problem solving tool. Hence, its main objective is to find root causes of problems in a process, which create variability. It attempts to remove those root origins.
