Chapter:
How does speaker remember his grandmor?
The poet expresses his memory and honor towards his mother by showing his affection towards her in the poem. He respects and praises her from his heart. And he finds his grandmother as an example of mesquaki tribe's identity, which is metaphorical in the poem. He finds her as a perfect mesquaki tribe woman, who is so loving and inspiring for him. Therefore, he has fresh image of his grandmother even though she is no more with him.
His grandmother would wear a purple scarf round her head and would go to market with plastic shopping bag in her hand. She would put her warm and damp hand on his head to express her love to him. Her wet hand would smell roots as she would work in the garden. She would call him with words of love. At the winter night, when they were shivering with cold, she would wake up and move the fire which was covered with thick ashes.
