The growth of a particular species depends on the factors available in the given region for their survival. On the basis of the nature of growth and the specific requirement the growth patterns are classified into J-shape, S-shape etc. J-shaped growth curve records the situation in which the population density of an organism increases rapidly in an exponential in new environment, but then stops abruptly as environmental resistance (e.g., seasonality) or some other factor (e.g., the end of the breeding phase) suddenly becomes effective. This type of population growth is termed density-independent as the regulation of growth rate is not related to the population density until the final crash.
