The poem, The Lamentation of the Old Pensioner, written by a popular Irish poet and playwright, W.B Yeats is a nostalgic (regretful / reflective) poem where the poet laments over his present ugly, old, retired and neglected condition. He thinks that time is his enemy witch changed him from a handsome young man to an ugly and retired old person. Therefore, he vents his anger and hatred at time. The old pensioner loses strength and romance of life. Time is the only factor which is responsible for the present miserable condition of the old man. Finally being extremely angry and helpless, the old pensioner spits into the face of time.
