This award is named in memory of INSEC ( Informal Sector Service Centre ) founder general secretary Prakash Kafle, who tragically lost his life in a Thai Air accident at Ghopte Bhir in Nuwakot on July 31, 1992. The accident claimed the lives of 114 people, including prominent figures such as academic Martin Hofften, a leader in the Nepali Democratic Movement, and Ang Dorje Sherpa, the publisher of the then Rajdhani Weekly, alongside a group of human rights activists and crew members.
