The epididymis is a tube that connects a testicle to a vas deferens in male reproductive system. It is present in all male reptiles, birds, and mammals. It is a single, narrow, tightly-coiled tube in adult humans, 6 to 7 meters in length connecting efferent ducts from rear of each testicle to its vas deferens.
Spermatozoa formed in testis enter caput epididymis, progress to corpus, and finally reach cauda region, where y are stored. Sperm entering caput epididymis are incomplete?y lack ability to swim forward (motility) and to fertilize an egg. Epididymal transit takes 2-3 days in humans (longer in or species), but sperm can be stored in cauda for 2?3 days. During ir transit in epididymis, sperm undergoes maturation processes necessary for m to acquire motility and fertility. Final maturation (capacitation) is completed in female reproductive tract.
